Ben's Career Journey
Never in my wildest dreams would I have pictured myself having a career in television and media. I spent my formative years in Australia and I saw myself working in a big corporation, climbing the career ladder as I studied for a Masters in Management (Human Resources) from Monash University.
After graduation, I worked in the corporate sector for a few years. I also started appearing in television commercials and print advertisements, and one day I was at “the right place at the right time.” A Producer approached me to audition for a new show called Absolute Football with Astro. I was a bit reluctant at first, but he managed to convince me. After trying out, I got the job, got into it and thoroughly enjoyed this new-found interest.
I hosted Absolute Football for about 2 years and then moved over to ntv7’s The Breakfast Show. From there, I also got opportunities to emcee more functions, host The 2007 Rugby World Cup, the 2008 Olympic Games, and online programs with Media Prima’s GUA TV (gua.com.my)
2008 was an interesting year as I also started my own columns. Growing Pains with the New Straits Times Malaysia is about youth lifestyle issues of the under-35s. Seen with FHM is about the events I attend on FHM’s behalf.
My career in media has been an interesting journey, and a path which will hopefully lead to me joining an international network one day. I want to ask the tough questions to world leaders, cover controversial issues, and wave to my mum and dad at the same time. Fame has never really bothered me, as this job is about meeting interesting people.
I like to thank my friends, colleagues and family who have always believed in my abilities and who have supported me all along. The great Dr. Ric Charlesworth once said, “By surrounding yourself with positive and open-minded people, you can go very far.” Well, the people around me are first class, and without their help, I could not have achieved what I have.
This website aims to act as a professional portal for anyone who would like to view my work. May this website help prosper my media journey, and may it also bring joy to all who view it.
